Welcome friends, family, and supporters of South Milwaukee Boys & Girls Cross Country.
The Rockets participated in the Woodland Conference Championships on Friday, October 17. The boys finished 3rd out of 11 teams and the girls were 4th out of 10 teams.
The boy's team scores were the closest in many years. Pewaukee - 61, Shorewood - 64, SM - 65. We were able to get 4 runners into the top 10, but the gap between our 4th runner and our 5th runner was too big to win the championship. It was a very exciting race and the boys almost pulled it off. Jordan Janusiak's time of 16:36 is the 8th best 5K time in school history.
The girls finished in 4th place behind Shorewood, Pewaukee, & New Berlin West. Maddie Wood and Becca Heller finished in the top ten to lead the team. Injuries kept the team from placing higher.
The JV teams will close out the season by participating in the 23rd Annual South Milwaukee JV Invitational to be held on Thursday, October 23. Girls race at 4:00 and Boys race at 4:45. 21 schools will be racing.
The Varsity Squads will participate in the W.I.A.A. Sectional Championships on Saturday, October 25 at Mitchell Park in Brookfield. 12 teams will be racing to finish in the top 2 spots to qualify for the State Meet. Also qualifying for the State Meet will be the top 5 individuals who on not on a qualifying team.
We feel the boys team has a very good chance of making it to State. It will be a very close race between SM, Marquette, West Allis Hale, Brookfield East, & Brookfield Central.
Because of injuries, the girls team is a long shot to make it to State. We do think that our top two runners have a very good chance of being individual qualifiers. Again, the races will be very close.
